Commission D Secretary: Surrounding Regions Must Be Involved in Tackling Air Pollution

Jakarta Environment (LH) Agency is committed to increasing the number of Air Quality Monitoring Stations (SPKU) as part of a data-driven approach to tackling air pollution.

Jakarta Council (DPRD) Commission D Secretary, Habib Muhammad bin Salim Alatas voiced his support for LH Agency's initiative to scale up low-cost sensors air quality sensor installations. In addition, he recommended that the city government collaborate with surrounding regions by establishing a coordination body to tackle air pollution. 

"A special cross-regional coordination body should be formed to address air pollution involving Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek)," he said on Monday (3/24).

According to him, addressing Jakarta's air pollution requires aligning regulations and air quality benchmarks across Jabodetabek area to implement a unified strategy.

Habib Muhammad assessed that an cross-regional coordination body should be responsible for discussing the proportional allocation of budgets for investment in pollution control and monitoring infrastructure.

He also emphasized that addressing air pollution requires an integrated early warning system for real-time air quality monitoring across Jabodetabek.

"The development of an integrated cross-regional early warning system is necessary to anticipate deteriorating air conditions," he asserted.

He added that his party is committed to supporting air pollution control policies to ensure cleaner air for all Jakarta residents.

"Coordination in enforcing regulations against industries that are major sources of pollution, regardless of their administrative locations," he mentioned.
